Chevrolet Corvette established its dominance in the premium sportscar segment by outselling most of its competitors during Q3 2020.

After being in development for almost 60 years, the C8 Corvette received a great deal of fanfare when the car made its global debut back in July 2019. Since then, the company has been struggling to address production delays caused by strikes and parts shortages resulting from the ongoing global pandemic.

The C8 Corvette continues to be one of the most popular offerings in the segment, which we recently described in our C8 Convertible review as the American Ferrari. As it turns out, the first-ever mid-engine Corvette also happens to be the best-selling premium sports car of Q3 2020 in the USA.

The Golden Bow Tie brand sold 6,355 units of the C8 Corvette in the third quarter of this year which is more than the combined sales of Porsche 911, Mercedes-BenzAMG GT, AudiR8, NissanGT-R, AcuraNSX, and BMWi8. The all-new Chevrolet Corvette was responsible for 55% of all premium sports car sales in Q3 2020.

With prices starting at just $59,995, the C8 Corvette offers a lot of value for money which only adds to its popularity. With 0 to 60 MPH acceleration time of just 2.9 seconds and styling that can rival some of the most thoroughbred offerings in the segment, it is not surprising that C8 Corvette managed to dominate the premium sports car segment this quarter. To put things into perspective, a comparable Porsche 911 takes 4.2 seconds to make the 0 to 60 MPH run, and prices for the iconic German nameplate start at $99,200.

We recently tried to configure the most expensive C8 Corvette money can buy, and even with all the bells and whistles accounted for, the most expensive version of the Bowling Green sports car barely landed north of $100k. Even automotive website Car and Driver recently honored the 2021 Corvette as one of the best sports cars of 2020.

The premium sports car segment grew by 16.07% since Q3 2019, and companies like Mercedes also reported impressive sales. The tri-star brand witnessed a 105.07% increase in sales of the SLC-Class which accounts for 728 units sold.

Chevrolet has confirmed that it will not be able to meet all 2020 Corvette orders, but if the current trend continues, there is a good chance that Corvette will be able to maintain most of its market share in the final quarter of this fiscal year.
