Will You Trade Your Base C8 Corvette for a C8 Z06?

With news of the C8 Z06’s imminent arrival, CorvetteForum members ponder whether or not they’ll trade their base C8s for the new ‘Vette.

The wait for the C8 Corvette Z06 might be over soon. As we reported a few days ago, the debut of the newest C8 might come as soon as July, two years after the current C8 first shook the world. MotorTrend even caught a test mule roaring around the bends of Willow Springs with a flat-plane V8 in back. All we know is when it does arrive, the C8 Z06 will set the world on fire.

Which leads us to a question posed by Corvette Forum Senior Member ukester: how many base C8 Corvette owners will trade them in for the C8 Z06?

Will Trade for a C8 Z06

“Seems like there are many that have bought a new C8 in the gap of the new Z06 coming out,” ukester said. “Would there be a lot of these cars then for sale?”

Capevettes offers the first response, stating he’ll hand the keys to a friend when the C8 Z06 hits showrooms. He also believes a lot of base C8 owners will make the trade up to a Z06. Meanwhile, whitec7 says he’s already the first on his dealer’s list for one. ArchieStanton is on his dealer’s list for one, too, but will have a base C8 some time in March. For him, if the Z06 is the better ride for his desires, he’ll trade. If not, so be it.

“Yes, if they do a nice job on the engine,” said FF2000. “Either 620+ hp NA flat plane crank or twin turbo flat plane crank will be acceptable. That and they drop 100+ lbs and I will trade up within 1 year of first deliveries.”

“I need more information on it,” adds Sin City. “But if it hits the criteria, yes I will sell or trade up.”

Will Hold Their Base C8

“I have come to the conclusion years ago, for me at least, that anything over 400-450hp is not really useful for me for street driving only,” said thill444. “Even on most tracks I do attend, they are more of the smaller technical type, where high horsepower cars don’t have as much of an advantage. I had a GT350, and yes high redline FPC cars are fun, but the problem is you rarely get to really wind them out unless you are able to grossly exceed the speed limit without fear. It will be interesting to see the gearing if the car really is NA high redline FPC.”

“Nope,” adds GTS Bruce. “No ZO6. First on the ZR1 list if it is produced.”

Others holding their base C8 include Phil1098 who says he won’t be trading in his base C8 for a C8 Z06, as what he has is all he needs. RKCRLR feels the same, stating his Z51 C8 “is a better fit for [his] use than a Z06 would be,” though he wouldn’t turn down a drive in one. Also in the same boat is Stan0324, who loves the zero-to-60 time on his ‘Vette, and believes the price tag would be a bridge too far for him to cross.

And then, there are a couple who are on the fence, like Scottfpv, who writes:

“Is the Z06 going to come out in a Convertible? If it is, I will buy one, but if not, I will stick to the C8 Stingray. No E-Ray for me (No frunk). I want storage space for trips. So Z06 convertible is preferred. But, if it has mid exhaust, then I may not go with it as it will cut into the trunk. Also, if airflow cuts too far into the frunk, then Stingray it is. I hope they go convertible and keep the storage space on the Z06, if they do, I am in.”

Most Prefer Base C8 Over C8 Z06

Of the 43 posts on the subject thus far, only 25 mentioned whether or not they were going to get the C8 Z06. Of the 25, 40% (10 posters, including the OP) were ready to make the move. Meanwhile, 44% (11 posters) will keep their diamond hands on their base C8 of choice. Eight percent (two posters) were on the fence, and 8% (also two posters) plan to wait for the C8 ZR1, E-Ray, or Zora.

What say you, though? If you own a base C8, will you trade it for a C8 Z06?
