What Do you Call a 1200HP All-Electric C2 Corvette? A ‘Hyperclassic’
Auto designer Ian Callum is teaming up with C2 Corvette godfather, Peter Brock, to reimagine one of the most beautiful cars in all of automotive history.
The C2 is one of the most coveted classic ‘Vettes of all time and will soon hit the big screen in the upcoming Batman film. But what if we told you someone was going to reimagine this classic as an all-electric 1200 HP beast? That’s right, legendary British automotive designer Ian Callum is now working on a modern C2 Corvette reboot via his recently launched engineering company, Callum.
Callum has teamed up with Ireland’s Ava Studio to develop a new model that will soon join the Irish atelier’s Hyperclassic range. Describing Ava’s new C2 Corvette reboot as modern will be an oversimplification. The car will be propelled by an all-electric drive-train which will send power to all four corners.
Ava Studio describes the car as, ”an original reborn for the Electric age, we call this a Hyperclassic. Hyper-modern power and performance enveloped in the body and soul of a classic.”
According to Ava Studio, its C2 Corvette EV will generate anywhere between 1200 and 2000 BHP of power. Ava’s ambitions are strategically reasonable, considering that the popularity of EVs is at an all-time high right now. Even Corvette is currently developing an all-electric version of its latest offering, which will probably be called the E-Ray.
This is also not the first time that an independent outfit has attempted to electrify a classic ‘Vette. In October last year, we reported about a Chinese company called Songsan Motors, which unveiled electrified C1 Corvettes at the Beijing Motor Show. Unlike Songsan’s offerings, Ava Studio’s battery-powered C2 gets a badge of approval by Peter Brock, who was part of the design team that penned the original Stingray.
Brock even discussed his inspirations and what motivated him to collaborate on this project, ”a classic doesn’t happen overnight. Time is the only thing that really determines whether a car’s gonna be a classic or not”. He further added, “You go back to you know what could have been done better on the car? To be involved is a tremendous responsibility. It’s already an accepted icon out there in the world of design and automotive design. You wanna take all the best aspects of that design and make them a little bit crisper.”
The car will be developed in collaboration with teams based out of the UK, Nevada, and Ireland. Ava’s C2 will probably be manufactured in limited numbers, and this ultra-exclusive Hyperclassic is expected to cost anywhere between $1.44 million (€1.2 million) and $2.4 million (€2 million). Ava Studio is the newest addition to a long list of design houses like Ares design that have reinterpreted Corvettes in their unique way. So, European design studios also have a soft corner for Corvettes of all ages, just like us.
