C3 Corvette Crashes Into California Auto Shop After Mechanic’s Mistake
This poor C3 Corvette smashed through two walls before it stopped, but things could have been much, much worse.
Most of the time, when people crash Corvettes, it’s because they simply underestimate the power of the machine they’re operating. But that wasn’t quite the case in this bizarre C3 Corvette crash that happened in Riverside, California recently. Apparently, a mechanic working on the car was trying to jumpstart it at his shop when he accidentally put the car in drive, which then caused it to barrel into another auto shop – Cali Streets Tire – next door.
“I was just pumping away at work and then all of a sudden, the next thing I know, I see a car bulldozing through the shop,” Marco Avalos, Cali Streets Tire co-owner, told KLTA News. In the video of the incident, we can see the C3 Corvette bust through one wall, at which point the mechanic tumbles out of the driver’s side door.
Miraculously, the out-of-control Corvette just so happens to roll through the part Cali Streets Tire’s shop where no one is standing or working. It’s behind a lift that has another car on it as well. The classic Corvette then busts through one more wall and finally comes to a stop in an office just next to the waiting room, which is also thankfully empty at the time. Somehow, no one was injured, but this obviously could have been much worse.
Apparently, just a few minutes before the crash, there were at least a few customers in the path of the runaway C3 Corvette, too. Unfortunately for Avalos and his partner, David Hernandez, their newly opened shop will now be closed for at least a week, as thousands of dollars in repairs will be needed. But to their credit, they just seem to be thankful that the damage here was limited to physical property. “I can’t believe it,” Hernandez said. “God did something for us and everybody.”
As for the poor Corvette, well, it’s hard to see exactly how much damage was done, but we imagine that it will need some bodywork at the very least. What doesn’t make sense to us is why the mechanic jumped out of the car instead of trying to hit the brakes, put it in park, and stop it, however. Perhaps he just reacted poorly to the situation, or maybe there were more underlying problems that prevented it. Either way, he’s just lucky no one got hurt.
