We’re just glad that both Leno and the Corvette restomod came out of this encounter unscathed.

Jay Leno is probably one of the most popular gearheads in the world. The proud owner of the Big Dog Garage spends a big chunk of his time working on hundreds of rare automobiles that are part of his highly coveted collection. The former Tonight Show host is also not one to shy away from helping fellow motorists in distress.

According to a recent Daily Mail report, Leno jumped back into action to protect a gorgeous Chevrolet Corvette. The 70-year-old was shooting an upcoming episode for the CNBC series, Jay Leno’s Garage. Leno was joined by Grammy Award-winning Australian musician Rick Springfield, and the duo was seen having a conversation over a classic blue Corvette.

Like many celebrities, Springfield is a diehard Corvette fan. The “Jessie’s Girl” singer even owned a ’63 split-window coupe, which was modified by Greg Thurmond and his team at GTS Customs. It was reported that Springfield had sold his ’63 restomod ‘Vette to a 67-year-old Detroiter named Stan Finsilver back in 2016. The car seen in the video may be the very same 1963 Corvette reproduction.

The video also shows Jay getting behind the wheel of the Corvette moments before the incident took place. During the filming, Springfield steps out of a black and red Lexus I300 to have a word with Leno, at which point the compact sedan starts rolling towards the classic sports car. Without a moment’s hesitation, Jay jumps between the two cars and voids a low-speed collision.

The comedian managed to stop the Lexus from rolling and was soon joined by a member of the crew, who was seen wearing a high visibility jacket. By the looks of it, Springfield probably did not engage the emergency brake of the Lexus. The rockstar was also quick to Jay’s aid and jumped in the rolling car to put it in park.

It is unclear whether this exchange was a real-life incident of driver negligence or an act that was staged for the show. Nevertheless, we are glad that both men and their prized automobiles remained unharmed, but this incident will surely make for an action-packed Jay Leno’s Garage episode.

As much as we empathize with Leno’s reaction, we would advise the comedian to not try and be a human parking brake to compact sedans in the future. Remember, Jay, the same stunt did not work out too well for Tom Cruise in Risky Business.
