Auto Detailing: Chemical Guys Launches New Compound and Polish Pairing
C4 Clear Cut Correction Compound and P4 Precision Paint Perfection Polish each retail for one penny under $19.
California-based Chemical Guys is back with new pair of products designed to be used as a two-stage compound and polish, or as separate single-stage products. Chemical Guys, a sometimes CorvetteForum sponsor, says C4 Clear Cut Correction Compound and P4 Precision Paint Perfection Polish, “work hand in hand to remove stubborn scratches and swirls and restore paint with unprecedented levels of speed.”
Why Compound & Polish?
There’s an old saying in construction that there are only two types of concrete: cracked concrete and concrete that will crack. Auto paints and clear coats are similar. There’s spray-booth fresh and… everything that comes after. From swirl marks and nicks to acid rain and sun damage, the world wages constant war on your paint.
Which is why, every now and again, it’s a good idea to revisit your paint with compound and polish. Especially it lives outdoors in the elements.
C4 Clear Cut Correction Compound is, “designed to rapidly remove scratches and swirls, sanding marks, acid rain etching, holograms, and 1200-grit and finer sanding marks with both DA and rotary polishers, delivering maximum and instantaneous paint correction.” Chemical Guys also designed C4 with a “non-dusting formula” the cuts away blemishes evenly and quickly.
Now, you can try C4 on its own (hehe, I had to write that), depending on your needs and paint. Or follow C4 up with P4 Precision Paint Perfection Polish. Chemical Guys reps claim P4 is, “capable of correcting 2000-grit and finer sanding marks without dusting or leaving behind residue, making it especially easy to work with.” Suffering from light swirls, scratches, or slight hazing? Want a mirror finish? P4 should be the product for those situations.
Don’t Forget the Coating
Once your car’s looking its best, don’t forget to apply the coating, sealant, or wax of your choice. (Just make sure to use clean microfibers so you don’t introduce new scratches.) Speaking of which, if you’re looking for an awesome coating, check out Chemical Guys HydroCharge Ceramic Spray Coating.
To be clear, I’m not mentioning this because they’re a sometimes-sponsor of our site. But I am in the middle of reviewing HydroCharge along with HydroSpeed Ceramic Quick Detailer. And to give you a quick TL;DR preview, HydroCharge is my current favorite spray coating. Easier to install than a typical ceramic coating (even the wonderful Avalon King Armor Shield IX). And much less fussy and streaky than something like Meguire’s Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax (which is generally quite good).
HydroCharge is a little smelly, from a fumes perspective, but it applies quickly and without much product required. And the gloss factor is beyond excellent. My first experiment involved a quick cleanup of my ungaraged Cadillac ATS; one HydroCharge application made it look brand new. Even without prepping the paint with something like C4 Clear Cut Correction Compound and P4 Precision Paint Perfection Polish.
