C8 Corvette vs Ram TRX Drag Race

The uber-powerful TRX gives this stock C8 Corvette a bit of a scare off the line before it runs out of steam.

If there are two things that Americans love, it’s trucks and muscle cars. And while the C8 Corvette is far more of an exotic sports car than a one-trick pony muscle car, it too is nothing short of an American icon. It also makes a pretty solid drag racer in stock form, however, routinely knocking off all sorts of quick vehicles, as we’ve already seen. But how would it fare against the newest kid on the block – the Ram TRX?

While it may seem strange to race a C8 Corvette against a pickup, it’s worth noting that the TRX is not any old pickup. In fact, it’s powered by the same supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 as many of Dodge’s more potent passenger car offerings, which in this case produces 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It is also the first truck ever produced that comes equipped with launch control, so it was obviously designed to do a little drag racing.

Thus, that’s precisely what Hennessey Performance does in this video. The Texas tuner is working on developing 900 and 1,000 horsepower packages for the TRX, but before they do, they decided to line one up in stock form against the current sports car benchmark – a C8 Corvette. Shockingly, the pickup gets a big jump off the line and rockets ahead, thanks to its four-wheel traction, but the C8 reels it in and drives right around it for the victory.

“That’s a pretty good race,” the TRX driver said at the finish line. “I think we had a pretty even start. But honestly, the fact that a TRX truck can be pretty competitive with a C8 Corvette – that’s unreal.” “Yea, I was getting worried for a second,” the Corvette driver notes. “The C8 is rear-wheel-drive but honestly it gets out of the hole so well that it might as well be all-wheel-drive.”

Hennessey seems confident that its 1,000 horsepower TRX will be able to beat a C8 in a straight line, but we’re aren’t so sure. It’s certainly impressive that the stock pickup is so quick off the line, but it loses major steam midway down the track. Regardless, we’ll be looking forward to that rematch in the near future.
