1968 C3 build

Three years, two versions, and countless hours later, this 1968 Corvette proves big dreams and a big ol’ Stroker engine really pays off.

Buying a Corvette with the intent to modify is always an ambitious undertaking. Then there are those that buy a classic Corvette to build their perfect beast. Definitely a daring lot. And it is these beautifully twisted minds that roll up their sleeves, jump in and create something really special. This 1968 Corvette was an intimidating project. But after three years it is finished; and it is stunning.

Scott Jamison is the man behind the Corvette, and documented the build on our forums. He was thrilled to recently announce that he is now finished. Not only is he now the happy owner of his dream C3 ‘Vette, his Stingray is sporting some serious bite.

When he purchased the ’68 three years ago (pictured above), he wanted to create the Corvette of his dreams, and his memories.

“Last April I finally decided to pull the trigger and start my dream car,” he wrote. “Since I was five I wanted a red ’68 Corvette. 1968 partially because it’s my favorite body style, partially because that is the same year I was made!”

He started out with a great car. Red C3 with a 427 paired to a 4-speed, clean inside and out.

“I created version 1 (“V1″) in April which was just recovering the seats and new exhaust. Then I drove it all summer. Heavily underpowered and suspension was made of marshmallows, but overall I enjoyed it big time. V2 will be brakes, suspension, steering, bushings, wiring, and engine (yeah, subtle upgrade),” he said. Hey, if you’re gonna go all-in, go all-in.

So he decided to boost the C3 with a major engine: a 600 hp 496 big block Stoker.

After removing the 427, he got to work. Like most build projects, Scott’s came with a lot of ups, downs, a few broken bones, and a lot of unexpected. But he kept going, and his family and the Corvette community always had his back.

Finally, the project came together. And it is a true beauty.

The details are so razor sharp, from the L88 hood to the masterpiece underneath.

“Today I declare my Corvette complete,” he announced.  “I cannot believe how much I have learned other these years. I went from being nervous to pull the starter; to removing the entire rear differential and suspension alone with no sweat.”

With his monster set up he is making 600 horses, and a lot of people jealous on the road. “I am so damn happy!” he says.
