Several months of planning and fabrication lead to first-ever widebody C8 Corvette with air-bag suspension, owner just getting started.

Y’all knew it would happen. Sooner or later, the C8 Corvette would experience a transformation beyond what the designers had in mind. It’s happened to other rear mid-engine cars before, like Ferrari and Lamborghini. Body kits, lowering kits, wild paint jobs, all to make those rides stand out in the crowd.

Now, it’s the C8 Corvette’s turn. Cody Groom of Driving Cody recently featured the build by Alex Lawn. In short: it’s the first-ever C8 with a widebody kit and air-bag suspension.

“I’ve always loved cars since I was a kid,” said Lawn. “I didn’t really grow up in much of a car family, which is kind of odd. Everyone always asks me how did I get into it. I always liked going fast.”

At the age of 18, he bought his first car, a Camaro he wound up turning into a SEMA Show-worthy machine. He sold the ride for a newer Camaro, which he also built. However, it would be a 3LT Z51 C8 Corvette his friend told him about that would serve as the canvas for his latest masterpiece.

“That was a lot of work that went involved in it,” said Lawn, “but it was a whole lot of fun. Went up to LTMW, told them I wanted to wide-body the car […] Took the car to SEMA Garage in L.A. They scanned it. Sent everything off to Mira in Japan. Mira took about two months to render the car up — which is very impressive — then made the entire body kit.”

Once the Pandem kit landed in California, LTMW and LD97 Forged worked together to bring this stunner to life. This C8 Corvette calls to mind the Vector W8, the late Eighties supercar with similarly squarish wheel openings in the fenders. Unlike the Vector, though, this ‘Vette also has air-bag suspension. Originally built by YouTuber TJ Hunt for his C8, the brackets landed on Lawn’s ride. All of his cars have air suspension, allowing Lawn to race and show them off, something he plans to do with the Corvette.

“Some of the future plans for the car is some sort of forced induction,” said Lawn, “whether it’s a twin-turbo setup or a supercharger setup. I’m still bouncing back and forth. I think I’m more now leaning towards a supercharger setup, just because there’s been some issues, as everybody knows, with turbo setups.”

His ultimate goal is to pump 1,000 horses from the rear wheels to the highway from the C8 Corvette’s LT2. Right now, though, it just sounds like it does, thanks to the Borla exhaust. This ain’t no show queen, for sure.
