Forget boarding a Boeing 757! This Callaway SC757 Z06 packs 757 horsepower bolted on top of the big V8, yet flies as gently as a glider.

Though the C8 Era of the Corvette flipped the table on what the Corvette could be (and should’ve been decades earlier), some still pine for the front-engine ‘Vettes of yore. The last of these in the C7 Era were the greatest machines to ever roll upon the highway. From the base model to the ZR1, every C7 was a great and final send-off for the past six decades of front-engine power.

Of course, the aftermarket wanted in on the fun, too. Recently, Mike of Brink of Speed dropped a throwback to the time he visited Corvette World in Dallas to check out Callaway’s take on the Z06, the SC757.

“’15 3LZ Z07, just like yours,” said sales associate Robert Syzka. “Black on black, chrome wheels. Previous owner sent it to Callaway, did the SC757 package, which upgrades it from a 2.1- to a 2.3-liter supercharger. Upgraded Callaway intercoolers, obviously a tune, obviously a little bit of hosiery working for the cooling system. Otherwise, he leaves a lot of it stock.”

In short, it’s a sleeper Z06, an irony if ever there was. The only way anyone would know Callaway pumped up its jam would be either by looking at the badging or upon the matte black supercharger sticking out of the hood. It’s a stunning machine just sitting in the showroom, but just imagine experiencing it on the road.

“I’ve driven enough Z06s [that] I can feel a little bit of a difference,” said Syzka. “What’s nice about this package is on the low end, you wouldn’t know it has 100 extra horse than the regular Z06; it responds the same. It’s once you get on it, that’s when you get it.”

The Callaway also sounds wonderful inside and out, and looks cool shaking in the cut-out, too. Yet, even though it’ll destroy nearly all comers on the street, the supercharger’s still quiet enough to lure unsuspecting prey to the stoplight.

“Practicality in this car is fine,” said Mike. “It’s not too much power. It’s very manageable, it’s efficient. You can still take [it to] the drag strip and the road course, and do great on both.”
