Michelin Adds 44 New Sizes to Pilot Sport All-Season 4 Range
Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 — the ONLY all-season tire good enough for the C8 Corvette — has a few more brothers and sisters!
Michelin North America has introduced 44 new sizes of its Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires. (Full review HERE!) Customers will now have the option of selecting from as many as 103 sizes of the Pilot Sport AS4s. This makes it much easier for enthusiasts to pick the perfect option with the right specification for their lauded rides. Michelin’s newly launched selection also includes new sizes of run-flat tires, and the company has also introduced products that cater to larger rim diameters.
“Since launching last year, the Pilot Sport All-Season 4 has bridged the gap between ultra-high-performance summer and all-season tires – providing year-round performance with 4% better dry braking, 5% better wet braking and 10% more snow traction,” said Michelin.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that selecting the right tires for one’s Corvette can make a huge difference in the way the car reacts and handles. As we reported back in August 2020, GM probably managed to raise a few eyebrows when it announced the plans of using all-season tires for the entry-level C8 Corvette models. On close inspection, however, our editor Michael S. Palmer discovered that AS4 is an impressive performance tire.
Here are some features of AS4 that stood out to Michael during his review:
- Instantly improved handling at speed
- Offers better grip than many summer tires
- Impressive braking capability
- Delivers a quiet and comfortable ride
- “AS4 picks up less road debris “
Other than the new sizes, it’s business as usual for Michelin’s latest additions to the Pilot Sport All-Season 4 range. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right! Pilot Sport All-Season 4’s Asymmetric Tread Pattern continues to be its USP with the new sizes. Michelin carefully calibrated the composition of the material used for different sections of the tire to deliver optimum performance and grip.
Thicker outer shoulder – courtesy of AS4’s Asymmetric Tread Pattern- offers better lateral dry grip. The company’s proprietary 360-Degree Variable Sipe Technology grips wet and snowy surfaces well, and the tires also get rain grooves that prevent hydro plating. Pilot Sport All-Season 4s also have high silica levels that help deliver uncompromised performance on wet surfaces. Lastly, Michelin’s claim of AS4’s having “29% more tread life than leading competitors” warrants your consideration.
