Taking your C8 out to the nearest autocross just might be the most fun you have all week. You might even pull the upset.
Autocross is one of life’s great joys and there’s no better way to test out your C8 than curving through some cones. There’s just nothing like heading out to a patch of asphalt and ripping it with your buddies without the price tag of the nearest track visit.
In a recent video from RearWheel Drive, host Matt and his friends take things to the autocross course to settle which car and driver combo has the goods. The racers are as follows: Frankie in a Porsche GT3RS, Luis in a Porsche 718 Cayman, Anthony in a Honda S2000, and Matt in his newly wrapped C8 Corvette.
Ready, Set
After going through the lineup, Matt shares that he fully expects the S2000 and GT3RS to pull out the best performances of the day.
“The S200 is probably gonna be the best,” states Matt “Because it’s a tight course that we made and this thing’s a tiny little go-kart.”
“And then we’ve got Frankie’s GT3RS,” says Matt “This thing should, I would think, beat everybody. But we will see.”
It’s reasonable to expect such performances, but the real question is how will the C8 fare on the autocross course? Being far larger of a vehicle, it might prove to be a major challenge to pull out one of the better times on such a tight course.
Run 1
Frankie in his GT3RS is up to bat first in Run 1. After pulling off a decent launch, the GT3RS throws down a good run. But in all the excitement, Matt forgets to halt the stopwatch, so the run only served as a warmup for the tires. After lining back up, Frankie pulls out a 25.22 run on his second attempt hitting one cone for a final time of 27.22.
Frankie is followed by Luis in the 718 Cayman who puts together a perfect run with a blistering time of 23.76. The S2000 finishes its first run with a time of 25.27 with a four-second penalty for hitting two cones.
Up last is Matt in his C8. Matt rips around the course in decent fashion but a two-second penalty pushes the c8’s finish time to 26.14.
- Frankie in GT3RS – 25.22 +2
- Luis in 718 Cayman – 23.76
- Anthony in S2000 – 25.27 + 4
- Matt in C8 – 24.14 + 2
Run 2
The second set of runs produce similar results with Luis separating himself from the others as the clear favorite to win the day, improving his time. Frankie’s clean run boosts his standing and Matt produces the fastest run of the day, but four seconds of penalty cost him any real bragging rights.
- Frankie in GT3RS – 24.87
- Luis in 718 Cayman – 23.62
- Anthony in S2000 – 25.36 +4
- Matt in C8 – 23.36 + 4
Run 3
In the final set, we see our fastest times yet plus a guest appearance from thier buddy Ray in his Nissan GTR. Luis drops a blistering time of 22.67 in the 718 Cayman but receives penalty points for his first unclean run. Anthony, the model of consistency finishes with a 25.23 run.
But in the surprise of the day, the C8 puts in work and gives us the best clean run of the day with a time of 22.81.
- Luis in 718 Cayman – 22.67 +4
- Anthony in S2000 – 25.23
- Matt in C8 – 22.81
- Ray in GTR – 25.15
Final Standings
- Matt/C8 Corvette – 00:22.81
- Luis/718 Cayman – 00:23.62
- Frankie in GT3RS – 24.87
- Anthony/S2000 – 25.23
Unexpectedly, the two cars thought to be the best fit for the track laid down the worst times. Today, American Muscle flexed and earned its spot atop the podium. The C8 proved it belongs even with venerated brands like Porsche on the tarmac.
Relaying to you how fun this looks only goes so far, so be sure to check out the video for yourself!
