New in Wrapper C4 Corvette Grand Sport Has Just 540 Original Miles
The C4 Corvette Grand Sport was the pinnacle of the fourth-gen sports car, and this low-mile example is one of the best.
While the Grand Sport doesn’t look like it’ll make a comeback on the eighth-generation Corvette any time soon (or ever), that lauded name in Corvette history certainly left a mark when it returned just in time to mark the end of the C4. Today, the C4 Corvette Grand Sport is a rare and coveted model, and this 1996 example that recently sold over at Bring a Trailer is one of the nicest we’ve seen in some time.
Of course, with just 540 original miles, one would expect no less. The Admiral Blue Metallic beauty looks literally like a brand new car, in spite of its age, and is just one of 217 coupes produced in 1996 with the corresponding red and black interior. After spending some time between three states and a couple of different owners, it moved on to its next chapter after the hammer fell with a healthy $62,000 selling price.
It’s easy to justify that result thanks to this car’s stellar condition and the fact that everyone simply loves the C4 Corvette Grand Sport. It’s a truly special machine that’s unmistakable thanks to its bright blue paint, Arctic White center stripe, and red fender hash marks. The body also features Grand Sport-exclusive rear wheel arch extensions, black dual-exhaust tips, and gloss black 17-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle GS-C tires measuring 275/40 and 315/35 in the front and rear.
The interior sports a contrasting red and black theme and offers up plenty of amenities, which include power seats, a trip computer, cruise control, automatic climate control, a digital speedometer, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a Delco-Bose stereo system.
There’s plenty of power on tap to back up those race-inspired looks as well, thanks to GM’s 5.7-liter LT4 V8, which was rated to produce 330 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque when new. That power flows to the rear wheels via a ZF six-speed manual transmission.
The C4 Grand Sport is arguably the halo model of the fourth-generation Corvette, combining stunning good looks with solid performance for its era. And while no C4 may ever be as valuable as earlier generations, this fine example is certainly worth every penny of its selling price.
