Repainted in its original Nassau Blue, ’65 Corvette convertible won NCRS Top Flight honor in 2012, includes NCRS Shipping Data Report.
The C2 Corvette may have been a short-lived generation. Yet, it made a huge impact still felt today. For five model years, the C2 Era brought the ‘Vette into the muscle car wars with tons of firepower that only grew over the Sixties. By the end, the performance matched the muscular looks, carrying America’s sports car into the peak of the war during the early C3 Era.
This ’65 Corvette convertible on Bring a Trailer is a prime example from the C2 Era. So prime, in fact, it even boasts an award for itself.
Built on May 5, 1965 with a body from A.O. Smith, this ’65 Corvette arrived at Atwood Chevrolet in Bristol, Connecticut soon after. The ‘Vette arrived in Nassau Blue over blue with its optional hard top, plus the F40 suspension package. Almost 50 years later, it landed at a dealer in Texas, where it’s been ever since.
Under the hood resides a 396 V8 packing 425 horses and 415 lb-ft of torque. Those ponies and their torque hit the road through a Muncie M20 four-speed manual linking the V8 to the Positraction rear with 3.55:1 gears. A full set of 15-inch turbine wheels with knockoffs, each wrapped in BF Goodrich Silvertown gold-lines, help plant the power firmly upon the two-lane blacktop.
Under the black soft top (or the matching Nassau Blue hardtop, for the colder temps), it’s a blue paradise. Cushy blue vinyl buckets with matching carpet and door panels, all accented with chrome. The biggest eyecatcher, though, is the teakwood-rimmed steering wheel, framing an odometer showing 700 miles on it; true mileage is not known. There’s also a Delco AM/FM radio, but with the functional side pipes on either side, the only music necessary is the 396’s own song.
Prior to its acquisition in 2013, the ’65 Corvette won an NCRS Top Flight Award in 2012 for the previous owner’s refurbishing efforts. The result is a classic ‘Vette anyone would be proud to own. The photos alone can take anyone back to the Sixties; just imagine what the ‘Vette itself can do.
