This 1958 Corvette restomod retains all of its original charm but adds modern mechanicals to the mix.
You can’t throw a rock these days without hitting a Corvette restomod, though we would never condone such a thing. Regardless, as is the case with everything in life, some of these modernized vintage rides are nicer than others. They don’t get much better, however, than this stellar 1958 Corvette restomod currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, which has just the right amount of new stuff to complement the old stuff without ruining what is already a truly cool car.
On the outside, that means leaving everything mostly alone, save for fresh coats of PPG Hot Hues Dark Gray Metallic with silver coves. Most everything else about the way this 1958 Corvette restomod looks is classic and original, save for AutoLoc headlights, an electronically actuated hood and trunk lid, and staggered 18-inch front/19-inch rear EVOD Industries polished aluminum wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
Underneath is a different story, as this C1 rides on a custom-built frame with power-assisted steering, four-wheel disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors and red-painted calipers, and C4 coilover suspension components. The vintage Corvette has been upgraded big time in the power department as well thanks to the addition of a modern 6.0-liter LS2 V8 crate engine. It’s been fitted with a few upgrades including a cold-air intake, a red and gray intake cover, a BeCool radiator with twin cooling fans, Street & Performance tubular headers, and a dual exhaust system with four polished finishers.
The newer V8 sends its power to the rear wheels via a Tremec six-speed manual transmission, a Dana 44 Positraction differential, and polished aluminum driveshafts. Hop inside, and you’ll find a host of comfy upgrades and modern tech including immaculate red leather upholstery on the seats, dash, and steering wheel, a Flaming River adjustable steering column, a custom center console, Bluetooth-capable RetroSound stereo, a carbon-fiber instrument cluster, and Classic Instruments gauges.
Ultimately, the previous owner of this 1958 Corvette restomod took the Goldilocks approach with this build, retaining the Corvette’s classic style while upgrading its performance to modern standards. And that’s a combination that we’ll personally never get tired of seeing.
