C8 Corvette Service Costs Are Significantly Higher Than the C7
C8 Corvette service costs are nearly three times more than the C7, but nobody really seems to care.
Over the years, much ado has been made about how expensive it is to service and repair exotic cars. Much of this can be attributed to mid-engine layouts, which make it harder to service or repair those vehicles. In some cases, the engine has to be dropped out of the car, which is obviously labor-intensive and quite pricey. Thus, even though GM worked hard to make the newest Corvette easy to service, it should come as no surprise that C8 Corvette service costs are still far higher than the C7, according to WePredict’s latest True Cost study.
The True Cost study surveys owners to discover how much they spend on service and repairs over the course of 12 months. This latest study looks at 2017-2020 model year vehicles, and as one might imagine, 2020 model year C8 Corvette service costs were rather high at $967 annually. By comparison, the 2019 Corvette – the last year of the front-engine C7 generation – came in at just $359. 2017 Corvette owners spent $296 per year on average, while 2018 Corvette owners dished out $350.
The switch to a mid-engine layout certainly presents some obvious performance advantages, but it also makes the Corvette more labor-intensive to service. Additionally, the C8 is equipped with some pretty advanced technology, including its eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and 6.2-liter LT2 V8 with a dry sump oiling system, front lift, and various electronic goodies that are likely rather expensive to maintain and repair.
WePredict doesn’t delve into individual service or repair costs, so it’s hard to say exactly what’s impacting these numbers. Regardless, given the fact that the C8 remains in high demand heading into its third year of production, none of this seems to matter anyway. Buyers are still lining up to purchase a new Corvette, driving used values higher than new ones in many cases. Those folks will undoubtedly be facing a bigger bill when it comes time to get an oil change or new brakes, but clearly, they’re not terribly concerned about it.
