Man Tries, Fails to Carjack C7 Corvette During Wild Police Chase

C7 Corvette Attempted Carjacking

During this wild police chase, a failed C7 Corvette carjacking is one of just 31 crimes committed here.

There was a time, not long ago, when wild police chases were all the rage on the evening news. Thankfully, that isn’t really the case anymore, but these sorts of evasion attempts still happen and are routinely documented on the web rather than the TV. That was the case with this particular incident that took place earlier this month in Pinellas Country, Florida, when Kenneth Lunford got into a physical altercation with another man following a failed drug deal at the Dunedin Cove Motel, then proceeded to steal his car before later attempting to carjack a C7 Corvette. As we can see in this video from the Pinellas Country Sheriff’s Department, that was only the start of what would turn out to be a wild series of unlawful events.

After Lunford took off in the man’s red sedan, someone alerted the authorities, who responded with both squad cars and a helicopter. Members of the Clearwater Police Department attempted to pull Lunford over, but he wasn’t interested in going to jail, unsurprisingly, and only increased his rate of speed and doubled down on his reckless driving endeavors at that point. This went on for some time until Lunford reached the Indian Rocks Beach area and tried to pull a Grand Theft Auto on the driver of a C7 Corvette.

Lunford attempted to block in the C7 and then exited the sedan before trying to open the door, but the driver wasn’t having it and just took off. Following this failed attempt, he jumped back in his original victim’s car and nearly ran into that same Corvette while fleeing the scene of yet another crime. Amazingly enough, he wasn’t finished and apparently didn’t realize that he was being watched by a helicopter this entire time.

Lunford wound up carjacking a Ford Mustang after crashing the sedan he was driving into the back of the pony car. From here, the chase continues until Lunford once again crashes and winds up going for an abrupt swim in the Intracoastal Waterway before he’s finally apprehended by the Marine & Environmental Lands Unit. Now facing a whopping 31 charges, it’s likely that this will be his last drive for quite some time, which is a good thing for the citizens of Pinellas County.
