First Production C8 Corvette Z06 to Be Auctioned at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach

After the first C8 Corvette Z06 coupe sold for $3.6 million, the first convertible figures to also rake in big money.

Back in early February, the very first production C8 Corvette Z06 crossed the block at Barrett-Jackson’s flagship Scottsdale auction, where it hammered for an incredible $3.6 million. Every penny of that amazing sum went to charity, while the first-ever C8 Corvette Z06 will head to the collection of NASCAR titan and GM fan Rick Hendrick, who also happens to own the very first production C8 Corvette, which he paid $3 million for a couple of years ago. Now, the first production C8 Corvette Z06 convertible is headed to Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction on April 9 at around 4:30 pm ET, giving Hendrick (or anyone else with the means) the chance to expand his collection by one more historically important model.

If nothing else, watching this particular car cross the block on the Palm Beach auction’s last day should make for must-see TV, given the flurry of bids that have been bestowed upon its predecessors. Even better, all of the proceeds will once again go to a worthy cause – this time, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), which is the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs).

“Supporting non-profit organizations that provide higher education opportunities for young men and women has long been one of the pillars of our charitable endeavors,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We have helped raise more than $144 million to date for many deserving organizations and we are excited to provide a platform in Palm Beach to raise funds and awareness for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and do it with such an iconic vehicle from our incredible partners at Chevrolet.”

As if the newest Z06 wasn’t special enough, the C8 generation model represents the first time that particular model has been offered with a retractable hardtop, but dropping the top also promises to be an aural treat, thanks to the brand new 5.5-liter LT6 underhood. The most powerful production N/A V8 ever, the LT6 cranks out 670 horsepower and revs to 8,600 rpm and sounds amazing in the process.

The lucky person that gets to take home the very first C8 Z06 will be able to customize it completely to their liking, choosing the car’s exterior color, interior hues, wheels, brakes, and pretty much everything else one can imagine. Of course, that’s pretty much what one would expect when you’re shelling out millions for the priviledge of taking it home.
