2022 Corvette Buyer Finds Numerous Build Quality Issues, Are Complaints Warranted?
Are this 2022 Corvette owner’s complaints about quality warranted or is it a price we pay for owning a budget sports car?
As much as we love our Chevy Corvettes, we must admit, they’re just that – Chevrolet products. The Corvette has long been known as an affordable sports car that provides a whole heck of a lot for little money, but that also means that concessions must be made to build the car to a price point. Previously, we put up with cheap interior materials and quality, but the C8 had seemingly solved all of those issues. However, Corvette Forum member jweiss12 recently posted several photos of his new 2022 Corvette and its many build quality issues, which he found while detailing the car.
These issues include a misaligned “Corvette” script in the rear, chipped paint below the passenger side headlight, and the use of multiple washers to even up one of the rear quarter panels. “This is pretty crappy, not sure if this is common practice or not,” he said. “I am really disappointed and upset, especially after paying a premium for this car. I am a huge supporter of Corvette. I’ve had 15 of them. Amazing cars. This stuff is unacceptable.”
The OP didn’t quite get the response he was probably hoping for, as many of his fellow members are apparently quite aware and accepting of these kinds of issues when it pertains to Corvettes. “Your complaints are warranted, it’s just this is what we have to deal with by Corvette being tied to Chevy,” said Amoreloba. “Let’s face it, GM has never been known as a precision builder,” added Avanti. “They’re in business to crank ’em out. So, assembly quality is hit or miss. I’ve always been fortunate with mine, but I personally know others far less so. It just seems the nature of the beast. It has always struck me as a crap-shoot, so what to do?”
However, some others agree that these problems are just unacceptable on a brand new 2022 Corvette. “The guy has a legitimate beef, especially the chipped paint by the headlight,” said jkstew1. “Sorry to see – This is unacceptable,” added tadda. “The good news is that they all are fairly easy repairs/corrections. Take it back to dealer to have them corrected.”
Thus far, opinions on these problems are split fairly evenly, and this thread has racked up a ton of comments in just a couple of days. Thus, we’re curious to hear what you think about this hot topic. Are issues like these just something we have to accept and live with, or should GM be doing a better job? Head over here and tell us what you think!
