Dealer greed reaches an entirely new level in terms of 2023 Corvette Z06 markups, but how high will the go?

In recent years, dealer markups have become more of a thing than ever before, thanks to a heavily slanted supply-demand curve. More desirable models like the C8 Corvette continue to be marked up in some cases, though that practice has cooled off somewhat since the new model launched a couple of years ago. However, now we have a new, highly desirable, high-performance version of the iconic sports car for enthusiasts to salivate over, which means that it’s time to start calling out 2023 Corvette Z06 markups. Thus far, Reddit user idontcare717 may have found the highest anyone has seen yet.

That “winner” is Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, Florida, which is apparently aiming for the sky in terms of 2023 Corvette Z06 markups by asking customers to pay an additional $100,000 on top of the sticker price. A customer received an email from the dealership informing them that they must place a $5k deposit to secure one of the two allocations the dealer has left, then an additional $20k when they place the order, and – get this – a whopping $75k on top of MSRP when they take delivery.

Before the dealer will “accept” the initial deposit, the customer must also sign a form stating that they agree to pay this $100k markup, too. Of course, there isn’t much customers can do about this, despite GM’s attempts to discourage such practices. As most are aware, dealers are independent entities and can sell vehicles for whatever price they see fit, no matter how much we kick and scream about it.

Regardless, the act of calling out these dealers publicly is becoming more and more prevalent, and, with any luck, more people will take notice and put a stop to this kind of practice. If people stop paying these insane markups, well, they’ll simply go away. Unfortunately, it seems that there are enough eager, impatient buyers out there in the world to keep them going, at least for now.

Even though $100k may not seem like a lot of money to a select group of folks, we can’t imagine the financial pain they’ll feel if and when things inevitably go back to normal and these cars start selling for MSRP. Regardless, at least for now, our best recourse is to simply refuse to do any kind of business with any dealer that engages in such practices – there are plenty of dealers out there charging MSRP for vehicles, even today, after all.
