This 1963 Corvette Grand Sport tribute has everything one could want in a car, without the multi-million dollar price tag.
The ultra-rare 1963 Corvette Grand Sport is atop many people’s list as the ultimate iteration of America’s sports car, and for good reason. After all, it’s one of the coolest-looking cars ever conceived – racer or no – and it has an incredibly cool story to tell, too. But getting one’s hands on a real 1963 Corvette Grand Sport is difficult enough even if you are filthy rich, and that has many turning to replicas these days. In the case of this tribute up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, we imagine that it performs even better than the real thing, however.
This custom Grand Sport tribute was built roughly 10 years ago, but looks no worse for wear today. It features a reproduction fiberglass body mounted to a custom welded tube frame, and sports the classic color combo of red with white center stripes. With a vented hood, front fenders, exposed headlights, fender flares, and massive side exhaust pipes, there’s no mistaking this GS tribute for anything else, other than the real thing, perhaps.
The whole thing moves on a full array of C4 Corvette-derived suspension bits, along with that car’s brakes, too. The C2 rolls on a set of 15-inch Shelby American aluminum wheels, which are wrapped with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 245/60 up front and 295/50 out back. One needs all the rubber one can get under this car’s lightweight body, because it’s powered by GM’s massive 502 cubic-inch big block with FiTech fuel-injection, a high-rise aluminum intake manifold, and aluminum GM Performance heads. The driver gets to row their own gears too, courtesy of a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission.
The interior of this 1963 Corvette Grand Sport tribute is equally stunning, with a nice mixture of black and red components as well as AutoMeter gauges, a Hurst shifter, a tilt steering column, Grant steering wheel, power windows, and a Vintage Air climate-control system. Overall, this GS replica is pretty much everything one could ever want in a Corvette, with vintage looks and massive power and performance, without the multi-million dollar price tag.
