C8 Corvette Drives Through Deep Flood Waters

GM’s decision to make the C8 Corvette a mid-engine car paid off in more ways than we originally thought.

As most are well aware, it isn’t advisable to drive pretty much any kind of vehicle through flooded streets, mainly because you simply have no idea how deep that water can be. The majority of vehicles on the road face the risk of sucking water up the intake or experiencing various electrical issues when exposed to water, save for some off-roaders specifically built for such travels. However, it seems as if the C8 Corvette is also capable of fording some seriously deep water, as we can see in a couple of viral videos recently posted across the web.

A rather large tropical system has dumped copious amounts of rain on South Florida recently, to the point where many roads are buried in multiple feet of the wet stuff. This makes them essentially impassable for everything short of huge lifted trucks, but that didn’t stop this C8 Corvette owner from barging through the the water, which reached the roof of the sports car and created one heck of a humorous piece of footage.

C8 Corvette Drives Through Deep Flood Waters

If you didn’t know what you were looking at, you may not ever realize what the heck is lurking under the surface. We can see the headlights shining through the abyss before watching the C8 Corvette emerge from the deep like some sort of sea creature in what is truly a bizarre scene. While there are many benefits that have stemmed from the C8’s switch to a mid-engine layout, we certainly never expected “doubles as a submarine in a pinch” to be one of them.

What’s particularly humorous about this whole thing is that the Corvette driver makes it through and simply keeps soldiering on like nothing major just happened. The sports car also generates plenty of wake in spite of its non-dramatic swim through the deep flood waters, to the point where it moves a Toyota Corolla that’s parked nearby.

Obviously, this incident deserves a giant “don’t try this at home” disclaimer, as things could have gone much worse, and it’s unclear if the Corvette suffered any sort of damage after being submerged in deep water. But for those of us just watching from the sidelines, we can certainly appreciate the humor in the whole thing, too.
