This grandfather brought his C7 Corvette Z06 in to LMR for an 800 horsepower upgrade, and the results, well, speak for themselves.
While the newest and shiniest toys – like the C8 Corvette Z06 – tend to catch our attention, we mustn’t forget that we also have a fine, less expensive alternative that some actually prefer over the new mid-engine, six-figure machine. That is, of course, the C7 Corvette Z06, a car that’s still incredibly popular among enthusiasts and just plain old Corvette fans in general. Rather than tout some high-revving naturally-aspirated powerplant, the C7 Corvette Z06 comes packing a more old fashioned supercharged V8 – one that’s capable of churning out far more than its stout factory rating of 650 horsepower.
In fact, there are plenty of aftermarket outfits offering a wide array of upgrades for the C7 Corvette Z06, including Late Model Racecraft. That particular company has a full menu of packages for that particular model, in fact, which lift output up to anywhere from 750 horsepower to 1,000 or more, depending on how far owners want to go and how deep their pockets are.
In this recent video, we get a closer look at a customer car that’s come into the shop for LMR’s 800 horsepower upgrade, though it already has a few modifications in place, which are mostly cosmetic. From there, LMR proceeds to show us precisely how it installs its 800 horsepower upgrade, which includes the full Stage II camshaft package, a new cold air induction system, long tube headers, an upgraded supercharger pulley and belts, new spark plugs and wires, LMR’s engine management calibration, and dyno tuning, along with various other bits and pieces.
Once this process is complete, LMR takes the C7 Corvette Z06 for a test drive before inviting its owner to experience this power boost for himself. The results are quite impressive, as the car acts completely different even during a softer pull, not to mention the fact that it sounds amazing, to boot. At the same time, the car drives quite tame during normal circumstances, which is by design, of course. This particular package is for those that want to have copious amounts of power underfoot, and yet, also be able to take a grandkid out for ice cream when they want, too.
Regardless, this particular upgrade is apparently a temporary one, as the C7 Corvette Z06 owner plans on upgrading to the 1,000 horsepower package – and its Magnuson 2650 supercharger – in the near future. In the meantime, he’s got more than enough juice on tap to have some fun out on the street – or the track, if he prefers.
