Aspiring YouTuber Buys a Cheap C7 Corvette Grand Sport, Only to Find Out It Was Stolen
After buying his dream car for only $35 grand, a young man lost his life savings and this C7 Corvette Grand Sport, learning a costly lesson.
Saving hard-earned money to buy one’s dream car is an experience many enthusiasts have shared over the years. But it can be a perilous process between sketchy, dishonest sellers and outright thieves. Case in point, with automotive theft soaring to scary new heights, it’s becoming more and more common to see folks unknowingly purchase stolen vehicles. Recently, this is precisely what happened to aspiring YouTuber NicLunatic, who thought that he had found his dream car in a very nice C7 Corvette Grand Sport. A dream that quickly turned into a nightmare, as we can follow along via the videos below.
C7 Corvette Grand Sport Dream Purchase
Things started off innocently enough when Nic found his dream car – this C7 Corvette Grand Sport – and wound up purchasing it. He admittedly couldn’t wipe the smile off his face while driving it, and it’s a pretty cool spec as well with the rather uncommon Black Rose Metallic exterior paint and some other nifty features. He also touts the fact that he bought it for a pretty cheap price, though he also saves those details for the next video.
Cheap, but Why?
In his follow-up video, Nic touts that he bought what he believes is the cheapest C7 Corvette Grand Sport in the U.S., a rather popular theme on YouTube these days. He theorizes that the seller didn’t really know what he had, especially since this car has the carbon ceramic brakes and high trim, though it only cost Nic a mere $35,000 – far less than the upper $40k to mid-$50k range lower miles examples are commanding at the moment. It seems like a steal, but Nic also notes that the seller “might have been a little bit of a tweaker,” which is not what we’d call a good sign for what’s to come.
Startling Discovery
As many might have guessed by now, Nic should have listened to his intuition and realized that sometimes, prospective deals can be too good to be true. After spending his life savings to purchase this C7 Corvette Grand Sport, he discovered that it was stolen when attempting to transfer the title into his name. The seller went to the trouble of creating a fake VIN based off another Corvette, replacing various badges and stickers throughout the vehicle.
Of course, this means that Nic is in a bit of a predicament – since the car is stolen, the police come by to pick it up and return it to its rightful owner. However, it’s a pretty painful lesson for him, as he’s now out his money and the car, though he obviously learned an important lesson along the way. In today’s world full of more sophisticated thieves, it’s best to head straight to the courthouse to get a title transferred before any money changes hands, in addition to doing some due diligence and realizing when a deal might actually be too good to be true. After all, it’s far better to walk away from a car like this than to have to go through what Nic is dealing with at the moment.
