Chevrolet Corvette Exhaust Comparison: Single vs Dual Pipe

Exhaust gas leaves either side of the engine and enters into an exhaust manifold (or a header) in all V8 engines, including the Chevrolet Corvette. In a single exhaust system the exhaust flows into a single pipe from the exhaust manifold or header, then through the catalytic converter, into the muffler, through the tailpipe, and out into the atmosphere. Some 1998 Chevy Vettes had single exhausts, although with two down pipes and two tailpipes.

This is in contrast to a dual exhaust which is essentially two separate
exhaust systems where the exhaust flows out of the manifold and into
the exhaust piping, then into separate catalytic converters and
mufflers, and out through separate tailpipes.
 
It may be advantageous to convert to a performance exhaust system,
whether dual or single style. The advantages can be more horsepower,
more torque, and better engine efficiency. Be aware, however, that
changing your exhaust system will most likely alter the sound of your
Corvette. When researching a potential system change, it is wise to
