Final 2022 Corvette Production Numbers Reveal Some Interesting Facts
If you purchased a 2022 C8 Corvette in Caffeine, congrats, you own one of 385 produced out of 25,831. (Future collector car???)
GM has officially put a bow on 2022 Corvette production as it flips over to building the 2023 model, which means that it’s time to take a look back and reflect on how many C8s it built, as well as the breakdown of trims, options, and colors, to name a few. In that regard, the National Corvette Museum just released its complete list of 2022 Corvette production statistics, and as always, there is some very interesting information to digest here.
For starters, GM built a grand total of 25,831 Corvettes for the 2022 model year, 52.1 percent of which were coupes, while the other 47.9 percent were convertibles. The vast majority – 91 percent, or 25,831 units, went to the U.S., with a small handful going to other places around the globe. In terms of trim levels, the 2LT remained a fan favorite as it represented 42.8 percent of total production, followed by the 3LT at 41.8 percent and the 1LT at just 15.4 percent.
Meanwhile, just 1,007 cars were equipped with the C8.R package, and only 442 2022 Corvettes were built in right-hand-drive configuration for Japan and Australia. In terms of optional packages, the Z51 Performance Package continued to be the most popular, hands-down, as a whopping 68.6 percent of the cars produced in 2022 were equipped with it. Other notable options include the performance exhaust at 86.9 percent, as well as front lift at 58.8 percent.
Carbon Flash wheels proved to be the most popular choice at 37.9 percent, with red calipers landing on 34.8 percent of 2022 Corvettes. A grand total of 38 percent of buyers opted for a black interior, with just 295 folks going for the much brighter Morello Red option. A large 59.9 percent opted for GT2 seats, while 62.1 percent stuck with a standard black seat belt.
As far as exterior colors go, Torch Red was once again the most popular at 16.1 percent, followed by Arctic White at 13.9 percent, Hypersonic Gray and Red Mist at 12.7 percent each, and Rapid Blue at 8.8 percent. The least common color is Caffeine, which only wound up being sprayed on a grand total of 385 cars, making it quite rare, at least.
There is a ton of data present in this breakdown, and it’s undoubtedly interesting for anyone that purchased a 2022 Corvette. After all, years from now, we’ll be obsessing over these cars when they hit the auction block with rare options and colors, as has always been the case in the Corvette world, no?
