Here’s a 1965 Corvette that’s number 1 in our book. Actually, it’s the very first 1965 Corvette, VIN 194375S100001 and it crossed the auction block Wednesday evening at Mecum’s Spring Classic in Indianapolis. The Silver Pearl Coupe with the 327/365 hp engine was sold for $66,000 to Bidder #1 ? Terry Michaelis of Proteam Corvette.
Just to show the potential of a VIN #1 car, take a look at these recent sales:
At the 2008 Bloomington Gold auction, three serial #1 Corvettes were offered: 1955, 1956 and 1957. As a group, the three Corvettes reached a high-bid of $2.8 million but failed to reach reserve. The three Corvettes were then offered individually. The 1955 #0001 Corvette high bid was $850,000. The 1956 #0001 Corvette high bid was $900,000 and the 1957 #0001 Corvette reached a high bid of $950,000. All three Corvettes were no sales and haven’t been seen since.
The first Corvette of the 1960’s was sold at Mecum’s Bloomington Gold Auction in 2009. Although it was a no-sale at $290,000, the Corvette was sold through Mecum’s Bid-Goes-On process for $275,000.
We see this Corvette as well bought and believe there is a ton of upside in owning a VIN #1 car from the mid-year generation, which spanned only 5 years.
