Longtime Builder Cranks Out a Near-Perfect 1967 Corvette Restomod
The original version of this 1967 Corvette restomod was so well-received that the builder made an exact clone.
These days, it seems like pristine Corvette restomods grow on trees, given how many we see pop up at auctions on a monthly basis. The craftsmanship and quality of these machines is quite simply second to none, which has led to some truly eye-popping auction sales well in the six-figure range. That figures to be the case for this particular 1967 Corvette reestomod when it crosses the block at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming Houston auction too, as it’s been pieced together by one of the more well-known names in the Corvette restomod world – Jeff Hayes.
Hayes has been building some of the finest modernized Corvettes on the planet since 2007, and has cranked out more than 70 of them in that time span. His specialty is the 1963 and 1967 model years from the C2 generation, though he typically sticks with one of four “hot rod” type configurations. This time around, Hayes wanted to do something a little bit different, and he did just that by building a silver blue C2 Corvette restomod that sold for a whopping $715k at Barrett-Jackson’s 2022 Scottsdale auction.
The car you see here is a perfect clone of that car, given the incredible response to the original. Thus, it’s underpinned by an Art Morrison sport chassis, with Wilwood vented disc brakes and an LS3 under the hood that cranks out 540 horsepower. Shifts are handled by a 4L70E 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, though it’s also a stunning piece of art aside from just a mechanically reliable and fun machine to drive around in, capped off by a custom set of forged Schott wheels.
There are plenty of creature comforts present in the cabin as well, including a gorgeous Oyster interior with a Vintage Air HVAC system, an AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo system, power steering, power windows, and a power hood. It’s the perfect complement to the car’s timeless silver blue paint, a combination that attracted a ton of attention when its twin crossed the block earlier this year. Now, whoever missed out on that gorgeous machine will get yet another chance to bring it home.
