Arctic Blue 1956 Corvette

This 1956 Corvette is one of just 390 to leave the factory finished in this particular hue.

While many of us routinely rotate vehicles in and out of our respective garages, many of us also find the car we love and hang onto it for a very long time, and in many cases, forever. The Corvette is one of the select models on earth that has the kind of appeal that makes one want to keep it for an extended period of time, as we’ve seen time and time again. This 1956 Corvette currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer is a perfect example of that, as the seller acquired it precisely 40 years ago – back in 1982 – but now, they’re ready to move on, it seems.

Whoever winds up winning this particular auction likely won’t be disappointed, because this 1956 Corvette is quite stunning in every conceivable way. Finished in Arctic Blue paint from the factory, it was treated to a refurbishment quite a few years ago, at which time the body, chassis, engine, transmission, glass, carpet, and exhaust all received a new lease on life. The end result of all that work was both an NCRS Top Flight award in 2022 and a featured spot in NCRS Restorer and Solid Axle Corvette Club.

This 1956 Corvette is certainly handsome, with a cool blue main color accented by silver coves and a white soft top. Along with new glass, the chrome has been redone as well, while this classic Corvette rolls on matching blue wheels with chrome spinner-style covers and BFGoodrich white wall tires.

Beige vinyl adorns the interior of this particular C1, and it’s in fantastic shape as well, with new carpeting from Al Knoch and refurbished gauges to freshen things up a bit. GM’s 265 cubic-inch V8 provides power for the classic ride, is fitted with dual carbs, and was rebuilt back in 2000. A two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission handles the shifts, making this a mighty fine cruiser, if not a stoplight-to-stoplight sort of ride.

As good as it looks, however, this 1956 Corvette is sure to please everywhere it goes, as its prior accolades prove. Throw in the fact that GM simply didn’t make a ton of Corvettes in this particular model year – 3,467, with just 390 of them finished in Arctic Blue – and it’s easy to see that this longtime prized possession is a truly excellent find.
