Longtime 1967 Corvette Field Car to Finally Undergo Restoration

It’s always sad to see a classic Corvette just wasting away in a field.

But this story, reported by Al Rogers in Old Cars Weekly, offers hope for a happy ending for a 1967 Corvette roadster that’s been sitting in a grassy field for more than 30 years.

Owners Lee and Amanda Sloppy have always had big plans for the car, which they bought from the original owner in 1973.

In fact, Amanda drove the Sting Ray back and forth to work for years until 1981. That’s when the brakes went out, and the numbers-matching, 327/300 Corvette was parked in a field.

?Family life took over with the arrival of our children, campers, dune buggies, and other projects,? Lee says. ?The Corvette was not a priority.?

Now that Lee, a former GM mechanic, has retired, though, it’s a different story. He resisted many offers through the years to buy the Corvette, and now a shop is under construction to serve as the home of an impressive frame-off restoration project. He has the time and resources and desire to bring the car back to life, and it could fetch upwards of $80,000 properly done. Somehow, we get the feeling that this car will be with the Sloppys for a long time. They definitely deserve to enjoy their long-awaited ?prize.?
