Bloomington Gold to Offer Gold Autocross
When Bloomington Gold announced that they were moving to Champaign, IL after 10 years in St. Charles, IL they did so in order to facilitate bigger and better Corvette-related events like an improved GoldTour. Now they’ve taken the wraps off of their Corvette-only Gold Autocross making its debut at this year’s show.
Participants can test their skills on Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th at Parkland College
adjacent to the Bloomington Gold show on the University of Illinois campus. Check-in starts each day at 7:30am and the first car takes the green flag at 8:30am. Entrance in the Gold Autocross is $25 which will get you 5 tours around the sinuous track. Organizers estimate that lap times will vary from 40-60 seconds depending on your skill and courage levels. The event will accommodate up to 120 cars each day.
No experience is required for the Gold Autocross, but prior to taking the track each car will be subject to a brief tech inspection. Some of the criteria include tires with sufficient tread, no leaks, and an approved helmet (A Snell 2000 or newer is permitted). Some loaner brain buckets will be available onsite at no cost if you need one.
Bloomington Gold attendees have been clamoring for an autocross for some time and it’s great to see one officially added to the weekend agenda. You can pre-register for the Gold Autocross here or you can register onsite at the event. We recommend you go the pre-registration route to make sure you get a spot in line.
