Corvette of the Week: a Black-on-Black C5
CF member ktlocklear and his wife are bringing new meaning to the phrase “power couple” by tracking their 2004 black-on-black Z06. I will not try to contain my jealousy over how much fun they must be having.
In order to make the Corvette even more track capable, ktlocklear “pulled the painful trigger on a StopTech BBK.” It became obvious it was time to upgrade after destroying several sets of brake pads and NAPA rotors.
I went with the 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear calipers with 355mm two piece rotors front and rear. The kit came complete with 3 bottles of Motul 660 fluid, stainless braided brake lines, and StopTech Street Performance Pads. For the track, I got a set of Cobalt XR2 pads, front and rear. Install was a breeze . . . and the brake performance, all I can say is HOLY CRAP! This is what GM should have put on these cars from the factory.
On the street, the car sports the black-on-black look, but on track days you will catch this setup, including pink numbers.
Oh, and he is very much aware that “black-on-black is a love it or hate it affair around here…so PLEASE, keep your happy thoughts to yourself if you don’t like it.”
Jealousy inducing or not, don’t be shy about sharing your adventures on CorvetteForum.
Congratulate ktlocklear and check out the rest of his mods via this thread with photos and this thread on his StopTech BBK.
