Hawk’s all-electric C2 Corvette will certainly attract its fair share of haters, but it’s a cool build, regardless.

Following the revelation that a Corvette EV is in the works recently, it predictably ignited a storm of controversy across the internet, with both pro-EV and anti-EV folks doing battle in various comment sections, attempting to prove why they’re right and the other side is wrong. This is typical of any EV discussion, as it’s a hot-button topic that stirs up quite a bit of passion from both sides. Regardless, those that can appreciate cool cars of any sort will certainly dig iconic skater Tony Hawk‘s personal ride – this all-electric C2 Corvette – which he recently showed off on Jay Leno’s Garage.

Hawk had been trying to collaborate with a company called EV West, which does all sorts of electric conversions, for years now, but of course, a major world event threw a monkey wrench into those plans. Regardless, the all-electric C2 Corvette is finally finished, and it’s pretty darn cool, to say the least. Pop the hood, and you’ll immediately notice that the original 327 V8 is long gone, replaced with a Tesla electric motor that’s mounted in the rear, giving the vintage drop top around 300 horsepower.

The batteries now reside under the hood where that old ICE engine used to be, though they’re at least enclosed in a pretty cool looking case. Regardless, Hawk is well aware that his creation will undoubtedly peeve off purists, but he’s also quick to note that this 1964 Corvette wasn’t hacked up during the electrification process – in fact, it can easily be returned to stock if he or someone else wishes to do so in the future, which is ideal.

Out on the road, it’s a bit strange to see this old Corvette tool around not making a peep, but it seems to be quite fun to drive and ride around in as well. The car drives and steers just like a stock C2, but is seemingly a tad quicker, which is a benefit of that electric drivetrain. Regardless, it’s certain to anger quite a few folks, though Hawk clearly isn’t worried about that kind of thing – he’s more interested in modifying cars the way he sees fit, and he’s certainly earned that right after enjoying one of the greatest careers of any pro athlete in history.
