LT1 Engine Recognized Again as One of Ward’s 10 Best

When it comes to winning awards, there’s just no stopping the C7 Corvette. I’m betting that after it’s all said and done, the C7 will probably go down as one of Chevy’s most award-winning cars ever.

One of the most recent honors is for Corvette’s LT1 Small Block 6.2L V8, which has been recognized as one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2015. The new high-tech engine that powers the C7 was also recognized as one of WardAuto’s 10 Best Engines for 2014.

“This recognition is another step in earning customers for life,” said Dan Nicholson, vice president, GM Global Powertrain, in a press release statement. “Having the WardsAuto experts choose the LT1 as one of the best in the industry two years in a row is proof of what this Powertrain team can deliver — uncompromised performance, durability and efficiency that helps make the Stingray one of the best sports cars in the world today.”

A total of 37 engines and propulsion systems from 12 manufacturers were in contention for this year’s competition. In addition to power, Ward’s 10 Best Engines are assessed for fuel efficiency, new technology, and overall refinement when compared to similar engines.

Sounds like a pretty thorough assessment. But with 460-horsepower, a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds, and an estimated EPA of 29 mpg on highway, the C7’s LT1 Small block engine is well-deserving of the accolade.
