This is Corvette Genesis

The Chevy Corvette is perhaps the most well-known American automotive nameplate in the country’s auto-manufacturing history. It speaks deeply to the wants and passions of what Americans hold true in how we perceive the car. Its sleek lines, powerful engines — even its everyman interiors pre-C7 — have made the Corvette what it is: an icon.

That, however, wasn’t the case when it originally came out. It only came to hold that title after quite a storied past. Chiefly, a portion of what went into making the Corvette the icon it is, came down to its motorsport background. And one of the first pieces of that history was just sold.

This is the 1956 Corvette SR-2 racer, and realistically, it’s the Book of Genesis for Corvette. Only three were hand-built by Harley Earl’s son, and Zora Arkus-Duntov. This one was the first, and it just sold for a staggering $6.885 million. But when you’re bidding on a piece of American history, numbers tend to fly out the door quickly.
