Watch these thieves skillfully make off with a C7 Corvette wheel like a well-oiled machine.
Thieves targeting Corvettes is unfortunately nothing new, but rather, a pretty common occurrence across the world. GM’s iconic sports car has long been the proverbial apple of criminals’ eyes, which is obviously bad news for those of us that own one. Keeping our head on a swivel and ensuring that we take steps to make our cars more difficult to steal isn’t exactly fun, but it is generally necessary. Heck, just take this video for example, which shows a trio of thieves making off with a C7 Corvette wheel in a mere 30 seconds.
The thieves roll up next to the sports car, which is sitting in a parking lot in Southlake, Texas, then proceed to retrieve a jack from the trunk of their Dodge Charger. With quite a bit of precision, they proceed to remove the C7 Corvette wheel from the vehicle itself like a well oiled machine. One person jacks up the car while another uses an impact wrench to remove the lug nuts, a part of the process that takes a mere few seconds to complete.
The alarm on the Corvette does go off, as it should, and that clearly startles the thieves. While one of them tosses the wheel and tire in the trunk of the Charger, another places a block beneath the Corvette before all three hop in their car and take off. Unfortunately for them, the whole thing was captured by a nearby security camera, and police are now on the hunt for the wheel thieves.
While this is a somewhat unusual crime, it is quite possible that the thieves planned on taking all four wheels from the car prior to the alarm going off, or perhaps they just wanted one to make things quick. It’s somewhat unclear from the video what their grand scheme was, but we do know that they clearly knew what they were doing. If nothing else, this video is also proof that wheel locks are a nice little extra measure of security that could prevent us from facing a similar situation down the road, or at least make things a bit more difficult for those targeting our cars in the first place.
