OPTIMA Presents How-To Tuesday: Corvette Back-Up Camera Installation
Do you remember the “No Fear” slogan all over the place in the late 90s? OK, well I may be dating myself somewhat, but I do. I don’t know about you, but one of the finer points of driving a Corvette is making sure you avoid, well, everything. One of those tricks to avoiding things is while backing up. As most of us know, the sweet spot of the back end of the Corvette is large. Backing up a Corvette into a tight spot can be difficult because of the car’s low-slung nature. So what can be done? The short answer? Don’t ever back up your Corvette. The better answer? Purchase a Corvette with a built-in back-up camera.
Don’t have a back-up camera installed? Well, Corvette Forum has you covered. A back-up camera can be installed on just about any Corvette, provided you have the correct head unit. This article goes into detail specifically about installing an aftermarket camera on the C5, C6 and C7 generations. Surprisingly the process isn’t as difficult as I once thought it could be. That said, it still isn’t the easiest do-it-yourself project, either.
The article breaks down five basic steps in the process. There is also a very well-documented video that you can reference if you would like to take on this project. There are so many different cameras and mounting options to choose from, but in the end you’ll likely be hard-wiring in the same manner … unless, of course, you choose to go with those new-fangled wireless options. Either way, get eyes on your Corvette’s backside and keep that bumper clean and scratch-free.
