This C5 Corvette Got a ‘Panel Adjustment’ at the Track

At some time or another, you’ve probably been inclined to push the limits of your Corvette (after all, this is why you didn’t buy a toaster). Track days, then, have a large appeal, but remember, most of these are educational events, rather than an opportunity for you to showboat a blistering lap time and hope for a sponsorship — I’m still searching for that myself.

You may ask, is there risk in track days? Well, yes. Yes there is. Take for example this C5 owner (who, for privacy’s sake, we’ll call “Darrell”). Darrell, an advanced driver, was using his C5 Corvette during a track day I was teaching at recently. Unfortunately, he was a bit over-exuberant coming out of a corner. The back end stepped out too much to correct, and the C5 found itself a bit intimate with the wall, as these pictures I snapped clearly show. Jalopnik would be proud.

Don’t be alarmed, or let this put you off, as it’s honestly a rare instance. Most of these track events are centered on educating you about high-speed driving. In addition, they’re typically non-timed. You’re not chasing seconds, you’re chasing knowledge and driving competency. So if you want to head off to the local track, just have fun, be safe and keep it on the grippy stuff.
