Chevy Denies 7:08 Nurburgring Time for 2016 Corvette Z06
It looks like Autoweek might have jumped the gun with claims from a so-called “inside source” who said the 2016 Corvette Z06 pulled off a 7:08 time at Nurburgring.
The initial report, which we covered here, set off a firestorm on the internet yesterday with talk of a lap time that would have put the Z06 right behind the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SuperVeloce. But it appears that Z06 Nurburgring lap time was just a rumor, according to a Road & Track report.
Road & Track claims it spoke directly with a source at GM who flat out denied that the Z06 clocked a 7:08 time on the ‘ring.
Of course, it’s not the first time rumors have swirled around the Z06’s speed on the track. Sometime earlier this year, there was speculation that the high-powered, track-focused C7 had run the Nurburgring under seven minutes.
Even stranger, apparently Chevy can’t release the time because of a ban on Nurburgring lap records. So, the mystery could live on forever.
