Would You Ever Choose a Mustang Over a Corvette?

2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition

The Corvette is one of the greatest creations to ever come from America, and the new Z06 is the king of that already very tall mountain. There are very few cars in the world that have the abilities to match what the Z06 can do, and even fewer from the states that can accomplish that feat. It seems, though, that Ford may have a secret weapon in its new Mustang GT350R. CF member 11Mike started a thread expressing that he was interested in the new Mustang, and wanted to know what Corvette Forum thought about that.

Let’s set up the scenario. 11Mike owns a C6 Z06 that he tracks on a regular basis. He has been eyeing the new C7, but the excessive cooling issues on track are making him hesitant. The new Mustang GT350R is a track-bread animal with a high-revving naturally aspirated V8 that shouldn’t have the same cooling problems. He appears to love the idea of naturally aspirated engines (which everyone should) and he even thought about the Porsche 911 GT3.

11Mike isn’t the only one. Bigfainer is looking at grabbing a Mustang GT over a Stingray. With 435 horsepower versus 450, and a nearly $20,000 price difference between the two, it makes a certain bit of sense. Of course, looks, weight, suspension setup, etc. all need to be looked at, but it certainly makes one think.

So what are your thoughts on this? Is the new Mustang so good that it deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the Corvette? To be fair, I think the new GT350R could possibly be a better driver’s car than the new GT supercar, and as for money-to-performance ratio, the Mustang GT is a pretty great buy. Not sure its Stingray good, but $20k is a lot of money. Time for you guys to hit our handy poll and let your voices be heard.
