Does the Manual C6 Z06 Corvette Hold Up on the Strip?

We don’t always feature success videos here on Corvette Forum. Sometimes the little issues sneak up on the best of us, even frequent Youtube creator, BigKleib34.

In the video below, Big Kleib takes his Z06 to the strip, and the 6-speed manual was not exactly cooperating that day. Continuous replacement of clutch fluid couldn’t alleviate the problem of a slipping drive-train.

Racing is the best proving ground for any car, and it appears when fitted with some drag radials, a C6 clutch becomes the weakest link in the chain of power that goes to the ground. Some passes go right, and almost into the 10s, but sadly, with the car not running consistently, it didn’t work out for Big Kleib on this day.

The fluid and the clutch are some of the basic components of the Z06, so is it a matter of the original equipment not standing up to the test or is it a matter of the Z06 now being a bit aged? Traditionally we know the automatic equipped Z06s to be some of the strongest, but what do our readers think? If you’re going to the strip, would you rather have the manual or the automatic transmission?
