C7 Corvette Z06: Traction Control Is There for a Reason

I’m going to start this one off by saying that I have seat time in the C7, and the Z06, and many other high-horsepower automotive devices. I’m licensed through SCCA and NASA, both for competition and for school instruction. This is not to bash lesser skilled drivers or stand on a soap box, but to let you know this isn’t some heavy breathing staff writer who sits behind this keyboard. This is to inform you that actions have consequences.

Traction Control serves a grand purpose. I respect it for what it is: not the over-laden safety conscious versions you find on other cars. Standard traction control systems you find in a Camry, or pretty much any beige sedan, are designed for people who wear Velcro shoes. Corvette owners generally aren’t those types of people, and that’s why the systems in the C7 — specifically the Z06 — have been catered toward an audience that knows at least a bit about what they are doing behind the wheel.

It may sound a bit silly to say, but turning traction control all the way off means all the way off. And sending over 600 horsepower means things will happen. You can do it, and I encourage you to do so. But be safe. Have fun, but be safe. We don’t want any busted up Z06s out there, like we find in the video below (careful, there’s some NSFW language).
