All-Wheel Drive Goodness: Short but Sweet Clip of Corvette ERAY Frolicking in the Snow

A new video recently dropped showing a 2024 Corvette ERAY prototype utilizing all-wheel drive to the fullest by drifting in the snow.

The big news with the C8 Corvette was the new mid engine design. GM then took things to the next level with a powerful flat-plane crank V8 installed in the Z06. And the C8 journey continues with the soon to be revealed ERAY. The ERAY is going to have a couple of Corvette firsts. One is the hybrid powertrain. The other first for a Corvette is the all-wheel drive setup. All-wheel drive will not only give the ERAY tremendous grip off the line but will also allow the driver to have some serious fun when road conditions are less than perfect.

A video was recently posted on the Corvette Nut YouTube channel showing the ERAY taking full advantage of the all-wheel drive grip in the snow. This does not seem to be an official GM video, but the footage certainly appears to be the ERAY prototype sliding, drifting and just having a blast in the white stuff. Will future ERAY owners subject their cars to conditions like this? Most probably won’t but this sure looks like fun and it may entice a few to take on the elements. The ERAY looks like it could be quite the rally car.

Snow Vette

Usually when temperatures drop, and the white stuff begins to fall many Corvettes get tucked away in a garage or under a cover. Sometimes even both. But the ERAY looks to change all that. Not only will you not have to park the car when the weather gets rough, but you may actually look forward to it. Assuming you have proper tires of course. Watch this short video and tell us you would not love to be doing that. Can you believe someone actually gets paid to drive like that? You may not be able to get paid for your winter exploits in an ERAY. But if you buy one you can have just as much fun. And if you are at a rainy track day with the ERAY you will probably be lapping even faster than any Z06 out there with you. All-wheel drive has advantages.

ERAY

We don’t yet have all the ERAY specs, but we are hoping for the full reveal soon. With the added hybrid power and grip from the all-wheel drive system we do know that this is going to be a formidable sportscar. Sending power to all four wheels and using electric motors may not appeal to Corvette purists but you can’t argue with the performance. GM will be offering the C8 in many different flavors so even if the ERAY is not for you, there is almost certainly another C8 model out there for you.

RallyCross Corvette

Competing on a non-paved plot of land has long been the place of Subaru, Audi and the like. Never Corvette. But with the ERAY, the world of off-road competition is now opened up to fans of the American sportscar. We see in the video below that it can handle snow just fine. How about a little dirt and mud? Why not? Hopefully at least a few ERAY buyers will get their cars dirty and have a bit of all-wheel drive fun.
