There are some who still argue that the LS9 engine that powered the last-gen Corvette ZR1 is one of Chevy’s most impressive engineering feats to date.
The 638-horsepower supercharged V8 certainly has maintained a loyal fan base here at Corvette Forum over the years.
A lot of the appreciation and fanfare for the LS9 is heavily credited to the time and effort that went into building the engine. Unlike a lot of other powertrains, it was pretty much hand built, a process that seems to be fading, giving way to demand for faster and quicker production processes these days. All of which will likely make the LS9 an important part of automotive history decades from now.
The video below, posted by Cars, provides an up-close-and-personal look at the process by showcasing a master-builder hand assemble a Corvette ZR1 engine at the Wixom Performance Build Center in Michigan.
