Historic C2 Corvette Stingray Split Window Race Car Up for Auction

If you have ever stopped to watch the Goodwood Festival of Speed or are familiar with FIA/HTP racing, you may recognize this car. This is a 1963 Corvette Stingray, and as if its history wasn’t enough to sell you, maybe the fact that it is also a split window car might intrigue you. If you’re interested and located in the U.K., you can own this piece of still-driven-in-fury history very soon.

This 1963 C2 started out here in the U.S. in 1964 and was owned by Louis D’Amico after he graduated college. His first race was in this car in 1965 at Lime Rock Park, and what a thrill that must have been. It continued racing in the EMRA, IMSA, and SCCA until 1972, when it was sold to Skip Panzarella, who kept the Alto Racing livery it wears as you see it now. How historic is this particular car? In 1972, its final race with D’Amico, it raced at Lime Rock with the likes of Peter Gregg, Hurley Haywood, and Bruce Jennigs, while finishing in 23rd.

Now it lives in the U.K. and has entered the Goodwood RAC TT multiple times. The small block V8 has been built by Steve Warrior to the tune of 481-horsepower and has the dyno sheets to prove it. It’s capable of lapping the Goodwood circuit in less than 90 seconds, which is very quick. It’s also FIA/HTP (Historic Technical Passport) rules compatible, so it can run in FIA Historic races.

Want to own it? Well, you’ll have your chance at the Race Retro Competition Car Sale that takes place during the Race Retro International Historic Motorsport Show 2016 in Stoneleigh Park, Coventry, U.K. on February 26th. Be sure to bring nearly £180,000 ($260,000) though, as that’s near the high-end estimate.
