Just five examples of the Callaway C6 Corvette GT4 rolled off the assembly line and headed to Europe for FIA competition.

Throughout the course of the past seven-plus decades, many rare Corvettes have graced this earth, often featuring obscure or highly-coveted options or complete options packages. Oftentimes, these rare machines sell for big bucks, but it also isn’t every day that those cars are experimental racers built directly on GM’s production line in Bowling Green for competition purposes. That is true of this rare Callaway C6 Corvette GT4 – recently listed for sale at Bring a Trailer – which is one of just five cars built specifically to go FIA racing in Germany in the GT4 series.

Indeed, this Callaway C6 Corvette GT4 was assembled right alongside regular old Corvettes back in 2009, then shipped to Callaway Competition in Germany along with four other cars bearing a VIN that reads “EX.” For the next few years, these cars competed in GT4 and secured a total of three championships along the way, but the end of its racing career wasn’t the end for this particular example, as it was imported into the U.S. back in 2017.

From the outside, it’s pretty easy to tell that this is no ordinary C6 Corvette, as it’s wearing a Gulf livery of baby blue and orange, additional aero bits such as a front splitter, dive planes, and a large rear wing, as well as brake cooling ducts, an external fuel shut-off, polycarbonate windows, an F1-style brake light, and magnesium 18-inch wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport GT slicks.

Underneath, the Corvette GT4 features upgrades such as Moton two-way adjustable dampers, Eibach springs, a four-point air jack system, and AP Racing brakes with six-pistons up front and four in the rear, along with slotted rotors. Inside the cabin, it’s all business, with a single Konig bucket seat, an eight-point roll cage, and a fire suppression system. Pop the hood, and you’ll find a modified 6.2-liter LS3 V8 with a carbon fiber intake, custom exhaust, and dry sump lubrication, which sends its power to the wheels via a Holinger six-speed sequential transmission.

With a checkered racing history and loads of documentation to prove how special it is, this Callaway C6 Corvette GT4 is certainly a special find, with just one thing working against it – old race cars typically don’t haul in the kind of money that their road-going brethren do. On the same token, anyone that wants to own a cool piece of Corvette history can do so right here, for a reasonable price, most likely.
