Classic Corvette Caught in $1 Gambling Controversy

It seems that a vintage Corvette has found itself at the center of an interesting gambling issue. And the most disappointing part is that a New York State fire department will be forced to bear the burden of the loss.

For more than 70 years, the local fire department in Stafford has held a Father’s Day raffle during a local carnival, in an effort to raise money to help pay for equipment. But the state of New York has forced the fire department to cancel the entire thing. Why? Because of a ’65 Corvette Stingray being raffled off for $1 tickets.

Well, sort of.

The issue is that New York’s Gaming Authority says the raffle is in violation of state law, because the $1 tickets legally can’t be sold online or paid for with credit cards, according to Car Buzz.

All the raffle tickets purchased online had to be returned. And now, the fire department has to figure out what to do with the $90,000 restored Corvette.
