Billionaire Larry Ellison Gets Speeding Ticket in C8 Corvette on His Own Island

Just because you own an island doesn’t mean you can speed on it, as Larry Ellison recently found out after getting pulled over in his C8 Corvette.

It’s essentially a well-known fact that money can get you a lot of things in life, and we aren’t just talking about nice physical items like cars and houses – it can also typically get you out of trouble, should you find yourself in it. However, there are plenty of things that money can’t buy, as billionaire Larry Ellison recently discovered while cruising around in his C8 Corvette on the Hawaiian island of Lanai. In fact, the co-founder of Oracle and the world’s sixth richest man – who has an estimated net worth of $108.3 billion – was pulled over for a variety of traffic violations on his very own island last year, as recently-released body camera footage obtained by Hawaii News Now shows.

The incident happened back in October, when Ellison was pulled over for speeding on Manele Road at around 6:30 in the evening. However, while some expect to see the billionaire treat the responding officer rudely or even try and use his clout to get out of a ticket, that wasn’t the case at all – in fact, Ellison was about as polite as one can be in this sort of situation.

After apologizing to the officer for traveling over the speed limit in his C8 convertible, Ellison notes that he was simply trying to get home to enjoy dinner with his kids, but also says that “there’s no excuse” for his actions. Unfortunately, the software billionaire didn’t have his driver’s license on him at the time, and he wound up receiving a citation for his transgressions. Regardless, as local councilman Gabe Johnson pointed out, no one should be above the law – even someone that owns the very place these folks live on and are employed by.

“Some communities, as we all know, have let the elites just run wild,” Johnson said. “To have one of our own police officers actually treat him like an equal just as everyone should be treated equally under the eyes of the law – I’m proud to say, ‘Nice job, MPD.’”

We’re certainly inclined to agree, though the mere fact that Ellison was punished for his transgressions is quite humorous for a guy that owns the island that this all went down on. On the flip side, it’s also impressive that a billionaire – who can own any car he wishes – chooses to tool around paradise in a “mere” Corvette, proving that he has great taste in cars, if not a bit of a heavy right foot.
