New Grand Sport Matches a C6 Corvette ZR1 on Track

We’re betting that there’ll be a few longstanding Corvette fans taking note of this latest bit of news, as well as a few foes of the great American sports car.

Yup, apparently, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport was as fast as the C6 Corvette ZR1 during a recent test run at Virginia International Raceway. The new Grand Sport clocked a time of 2:45.18 around the legendary raceway, as highlighted in a GM Authority report.

News of the C7 Grand Sport’s impressive VIR run was shared by Corvette Product Manager, Harlan Charles, who was speaking about how the new variant was benchmarked at the track. Charles also noted that the time was clocked in a model with a seven-speed manual gearbox.

Other details about the new slate of C7 models are expected to be available on May 13, according to the report. But it’s clearly looking like the most popular new Corvette for the year will be the new Grand Sport.
