To Add a Blower or N/A Bolt-Ons? That Is the Question

One of the benefits of having a Corvette is the overwhelming aftermarket options available to get more punch out of your motor. Select a bolt-on application, and there’s about a dozen different companies that make additional parts to compliment it. This wide array of aftermarket can range from little parts to wake up the engine all the way to full-on builds. That’s where one of our fellow Corvette Forum members stepped in. Slo Yelo C5 wondered which is better for about 400-450 horsepower: going with a blower, or going with N/A bolt ons?

As most of our members have pointed out, each option has its own unique advantages and disadvantages. The supercharger route is bound to produce the desired power, but the cost is greater, and it stands a better chance of finding the weakest component and making you well aware that it exists. If you were to option for a better-breathing engine, a cam-shaft, header, and intake might seem like they would be less stressful on components. However, valve-train components need to be strong enough to back up the higher-cam lobes, and even with the addition of headers, power output won’t be quite as high as a blower.
